Point-of-Care Testing Based on Electrochemical Sensing
Disposable microfluidic cartridge with integrated electrochemical biosensor allows for quantitative, high sensitivity measurement of antigen biomarker concentration.

The Application
Point-of-care (POC) diagnostics testing is an important part of the healthcare workflow worldwide. Many disease associated biomarkers require high accuracy quantitative measurements.
The Challenge
Low-cost lateral flow devices can only provide semi-quantitative measurements. An alternative platform for low-cost, high accuracy disposable POC testing is needed.
The Solution
The Result
Using commercial Procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) ELISA assay kits on our platform, we demonstrated:
-
Quantitative antigen detection to below 100pg/ml level
-
Screen-printed electrodes designed for protein surface immobilization and performing parallel control assays
-
Fully integrated microfluidic flow cells for automated assay testing and optimization

Wainamics developed a universal POC platform that allows for quantitative, high-sensitivity immunoassay measurements using low-cost disposable cartridges. By incorporating electrochemical detection with a microfluidic cartridge, this platform enables rapid development of point-of-care testing cartridges using established assay kits.
